The Best of Mile High prides itself in the process of determining the best business in Denver. It includes many steps to ensure that it is not just a popularity contest, but is based on free participation, fraud prevention, online reviews, and BBB (Better Business Bureau) ratings. This process ensures that the business awards not only have the support of people, but also have the facts to back them. Here is a description of the process.
Step 1: Nominations – There are different categories in the Best of Mile High awards and locals can nominate businesses for that year in December. Up to ten candidates per category will then be approved in January.
Step 2: Voting – Local residents can then vote once per category. The top three in each category will move on as finalists.
Step 3: Reputation – The board will capture the previous 12 calendar months of online reviews. Then, the finalist’s overall rating and the number of 5-star reviews (averaged, if multiple locations) on Google are included in the equation. Basically, the higher the rating and the more 5-star reviews received, the better the chances are of winning. The board also references data from the Better Business Bureau to make sure only the best businesses are crowned the winners. However, the BBB Accreditation does not influence results.
Because reviews are more difficult to obtain, they are given more value in the final calculation. The simplified formula for determining the winners of each category is 5-Star Reviews x Overall Rating + Votes.
Step 4: Winners – Awards will be given to the top three finalists, but there is still only one winner in each category. Once the votes and reviews have been tallied, and the BBB ratings have been checked, the winners will be announced at the Best of Mile High Awards Ceremony and then posted on the website within a few business days. Finally, the finalists and winners are announced in the annual Best of Mile High Magazine that is scheduled to be published within a couple of months after the awards ceremony.
